Storm Front by Jim Butcher - Fantasy Book Review

This was the first in this fantasy series called the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher. Harry Dresden is a private detective as well as a wizard.

Have to say that since this is the first time I have read a fantasy series, I didn’t know what I was getting into. In the end, I was very impressed and enjoyed the story.

If you’re a mystery fan, you would enjoy the detective part of this series as Harry tries to figures out who murdered Jennifer Stanton and Tommy Tomm. Both were brutally murdered while they were in bed together.

While the plot involves Harry trying to find the suspect, he’s also tangling with a vampire and a giant scorpion. Of course, all this would lead to an ultimate battle with Victor “Shadowman Seles.

If that isn’t enough, Harry is having problems with Lieutenant Karrin Murphy and Warden Donald Morgan, a law enforcement officer with the White Council. This only adds more tension and suspense throughout the story.

Other characters that are fun to run into include Susan Rodriguez, a reporter for the Midwest Arcane, a paper that reports on the supernatural. Then there is Bob, who resides in a skull. I even enjoyed Mac, the owner of McAnnally’s Tavern.

Butcher is a great writer and knows his craft well along with the subject that he writes about. It’s a great fantasy story that’s worth 5 stars. I look forward to continuing to read more of this series.
